On our honeymoon in Cozumel, we spent a fair amount of time just hanging out on the beach and snorkeling just offshore of our Airbnb. You don’t have to go far to see pretty amazing stuff. We also took a snorkel tour of several large reefs towards the southern end of the island of Cozumel. I think the pics and videos are worth a few posts. I’ll be working on the videos over the next couple of weeks, posting them both on Youtube and on my posts here.

One of my favorite moments when snorkeling was when I happened to look down and notice an Octopus only a few feet away from me. I’ve never seen one in the wild before. I later identified it as a Caribbean Reef Octopus. The octopus was in about 3 feet of water and blended in perfectly to the plant life around it. Not only did it perfectly mimic the color of the vegetation, it mimicked the texture as well. As I followed the octopus around I was amazed at its abilities. When I was taking still photos, the flash went off… and to my utter disbelief the octopus flashed back at me!
Here is a very cool video I made (a little herky jerky lol) that shows the octopus changing color and texture as I follow it around. It is hard AF to shoot underwater, doing my my best here.
